Blood Tests
Blood Tests
Your doctor may send you for blood tests to check:
- That you are not anaemic (i.e., you have a sufficient volume of red blood cells to function properly).
- For signs of an infection that may be causing symptoms
- Formation of antibodies suggesting possible coeliac disease (e.g., Anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies [tTG-IgA])
- Markers of inflammation
By running these tests, your doctor can check if your gastrointestinal symptoms are not being caused by something other than IBS, such as an infection, IBD, or coeliac disease.
